What You Do

1.  Snap both ends off the green beans.  Rinse under cool water and shake dry.

2.  In a very large frying pan or a wok, heat oil over high.  Add green beans, sprinkle with seasonings and sesame seeds; toss to coat.

3.  Fry for about 5 minutes, tossing frequently, until beans are bright green and lightly scorched in a few places.

4.  Remove from heat and sprinkle with sea salt.  Serve warm!

What You Need

2 lbs. Green beans

2 tbsp. Vegetable oil

Shichimi togarashi (Japanese 7 spice)

1 tsp. Garlic powder

2 tbsp. Sesame seeds

Sea salt

Shichimi togarashi is a mixture of seven Japanese spices that is commonly used to season spicy Japanese dishes.  It is typically sold in small vial-like glass bottles in Asian markets.  Don’t confuse this with Chinese Five Spice – they are very different.  Shichimi togarashi can be very hot, so if you’re sensitive to spice start with a little bit and build up to suit your tastes.
